About me

I’m Debra Golden-Star, Coach Debra, trained at the ADAPT health and wellness coaching program in functional medicine at the Kresser Institute. I have my PharmD degree and worked as a pharmacist in many different settings throughout my career (medical pharmacy, hospital pharmacy and industry). Although I know a lot about western medicine I am a firm believer in Functional medicine.

I have always had a passion for healthy living, helping others and living a life true to my purpose and I knew I wasn’t being true to myself. I know you’ve heard this all before, right? This is a common theme of so many people so I’m not unique in that way. However, it seems endlessly important because it is my life. I want others to be able to make this big shift in their life.

When I was on medical leave for some serious health events and surgeries I was ok with my situation because I was away from work. That is not the attitude I wanted. My husband noticed I was miserable and lifeless.

Since then, I’ve become a patient in a Functional Health clinic. It’s been 18 months and I’m feeling better and am on the right track. Through my functional medicine treatment journey I have worked on my toxic mercury levels, mold toxicity, candida overgrowth, vitamin and mineral imbalances and genetic pathway abnormalities.

Life is ever-changing

I believe society’s view of retirement revolves around a certain age and the expectation that it’s time to slow down. It can translate into slowing down, but in a good way by doing what is important to you and living a life that has meaning and you enjoy waking up every day. Slowing down doesn’t have to mean it is time to stop your job and sit on the couch. I like to say “you can’t create what you can’t see”. Meaning if people make the effort to explore who and what and where they want to be in 1, 3 or 5 years they can begin to move in that direction!

Are you a working person in transition? Whether it’s early retirement, retirement, divorce or a major life change like a chronic illness. I know firsthand that these types of events come with a lot of uncertainty, hesitation, ambivalence, fear, anxiety.

You’re the expert of you. You know what it is you need in your life to make you feel the way you want. It’s different for everyone. You can have it all (whatever that means to you…we can uncover that together) and be fulfilled at any age.

Life is ever-changing and possibly you’ve been thrown a major curve ball with a life transition.

So many people are walking around as ‘silent sufferers”. I want you to know that you’re perfectly capable. You can always re-assess what you want and get rid of what you don’t want. Your vision of your happy existence can be a reality.
